On this day, fasting people observe Nirjala fast for the whole day and eat one meal at a time. During Kharna fast, devotees eat food without salt. Auspicious time of Kharna
According to the almanac, sunrise will be at 6:29 am and sunset will be at 5:41 pm. Kharna worship and offering offerings will take place after 5:41 pm. At this time, after offering Prasad, the fasting person will take blessings of Chhathi Maiya.
What is made in Kharna Prasad?
Kharna Prasad mainly includes jaggery kheer, wheat bread without salt, and satvik fruits like banana, apple, coconut etc. This Prasad is completely pure and satvik, in which garlic, onion, spices or packaged ingredients are not used. Kharna Prasad is made and offered to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. After that the fasts take it, starting the 36-hour Nirjala fast.
Kharna Prasad is not made in aluminum utensils
Prasad is considered very sacred during Chhath Puja. Therefore, making the Prasad of Kharna fast of Chhath Puja in clay, brass, bronze or steel utensils is considered auspicious. Use of aluminum utensils is considered prohibited in this great festival. There are religious, traditional and health related reasons behind this. Actually, aluminum has traditionally been considered an impure metal, hence it is not used in worship. Aluminum can release chemical elements into food when heated, which can be harmful to health.
