In a shocking turn of events, an Assam police officer has been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg. The officer, identified as DSP Sandipan Garg—who also happens to be the singer’s cousin—was taken into custody, as per reports by PTI. The development has sent shockwaves through Assam, where Zubeen’s massive fan base is demanding answers and justice for the icon’s untimely demise.

Zubeen Garg had travelled to Singapore last month to attend the 4th edition of the NorthEast India Festival, an event organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company. However, tragedy struck when the singer reportedly died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea.

The sudden loss left fans heartbroken and his family seeking clarity. Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and sister, Palme Borthakur, had earlier urged authorities to probe the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

SIT found financial link
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing singer Zubeen Garg’s death has unearthed a major financial link, discovering transactions worth nearly ₹1 crore in the bank accounts of his two personal security officers (PSOs). Meanwhile, one of the eight individuals who were on the yacht in Singapore during Zubeen’s death has contacted Assam Police, expressing willingness to appear before the SIT.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the state government has sought assistance from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department to examine possible financial irregularities in the case. He clarified that Assam Police would not travel to Singapore, as per the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), under which evidence collected by Singapore Police would be shared with India.

The SIT has already arrested four individuals — event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta. On Monday, the team continued its interrogation, recording statements from Zubeen’s cousin Rituprayag Garg, his studio caretaker Abhimanyu Tanti, domestic help Sadhan Nath, and two female singers. The ongoing probe now focuses on both the financial and circumstantial aspects surrounding the rock star’s mysterious death.
